Exercising ET Readers
At the end of our June story on bicycling for health (“Pedal Power”), we directed readers to our blog at www. energytimes.com so they could let us know what fitness routines they follow. Here are two responses:
I train with weights three to four times a week for 30 to 45 minutes at a time, and have for more than 10 years. I am 55 years old and work out at the same level as I did a decade ago! I also walk a lot at work.
On weekends I like to get out into nature. I would like to get a good bike and really get into riding.
I love walking, so I try to walk to work whenever possible; I also go for walks before work and/or after work. I do yoga from 10 to 30 minutes a day about four days a week.
I have been trying to do more biking but my bike doesn’t fit my body shape and size, which hinders the enjoyment.
Another reader also became exercised—at an omission in the article.
I enjoy Energy Times but was shocked to see in your “Pedal Power” story that all the photo models had no helmets! Our daughter is alive because she wears a helmet.
Energy Times, as a magazine that promotes good health, should be the place we see that wearing a bike helmet can be beautiful. You can contribute mightily to the perception that helmets are not dorky.
Protesting Muzzled Science
To your question “Does the FDA’s censorship of scientific research that could help you make healthy choices fill you with outrage?” (Washington Update, June), my answer is yes. I contact my elected officials with this concern on a regular basis. If the drug companies can’t make multi-billions, research for natural solutions is never funded!
Thanks for expressing your concerns to your elected officials. We believe that all Americans have a right to pursue health as they see fit. To learn more, visit the Nutritional Health Alliance at www.nha2010.com.
