Savvy for Summer

By Allan Richter

July-August 2013

As we head into summer and break out the suitcases for our well-earned vacations, there’s still work to be done. The summer landscape of fun and adventure is dotted with landmines that can be avoided with the proper preparation and education. Fortunately there are plenty of tools from which to choose to help fortify ourselves for the season.

Our cover celebrity this month, the well-read and worldy musician Alanis Morissette, has cultivated a happy and healthy life for her and her family by embracing the many tools available to her. Morissette discusses her penchant for blending these disparate elements in her pursuit of wellness, from the foods she prepares to the styles of yoga she practices.

This issue features several articles to equip you with some of the most relevant tools for the season. “Officially Certified”, will help you make sense of the many labels and seals of approval that designate organic and other regulated foods. “Skin Deep” will arm you with the know-how you need to protect your skin from summer’s brutal sun. And “Happy Campers” , will keep you from cutting your outdoor excursion short because you’ll be able to avoid any number of potential accidents when walking the woods.

Here’s to a safe and meaningful summer!

Good health!
